Khatm Quran Planned on Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam Sadiq

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A plan to do thousands of Khatm Qurans (reading the entire Quran) will be held on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Sadiq (AS).

It will be organized by the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abdul Azim Hassani (AS).

The Quran teaching center of the Astan has invited those willing to participate in the plan to visit the website of the Astan.

Imam Jafar Sadiq (AS), the sixth Imam, attained martyrdom on the 25th of Shawwal in the year 148 AH.

It was during the Caliphate of Abu Jafar Mansoor Abbasi. Imam Sadiq (AS) lived 65 years.

He had the longest life amongst the other Imams (AS) except Imam Zaman (may God hasten his glad advent). Thus, he is also called the Sheikh-ul-Aimma.

Shia Muslims and others in Iran and other countries hold various rituals to mourn the martyrdom of the 6th Imam (AS). 

The sad occasion falls on Wednesday, May 16, this year.
